The Malaysian film industry may not be as prominent as Hollywood, due to Hollywood's sheer size. They are catering to a country many times our size, whereas our film industry is a much smaller and ever-developing one.
And of our preference towards international films? Globalization perhaps. We see, read and feed on Western influences and media. It's not a good or bad thing, it's just something that's occurring. Mainstream media has permeated through our society.
With that said, our Malaysian film industry is alive and kicking. Yes, they may be low budget, not as large scale or not as fancy as others but we have won awards and we have been nominated. Look towards Yasmin Ahmad's films. She has produced and directed, Gubra, Sepet, Muallaf and Mukhsin. She's one that has never failed to deliver, touching upon different social issues that Malaysians face.
Despite a few hiccups and threats of censorship, Yasmin Ahmad and many other local directors have remained defiant and continue to produce film after film. Why? Because their films have attempted to address the many issues that we fail to discuss and thus has remained a 'taboo'.

iena : Although, the local film gets award, but he still can not to match foreign films.
The foreign films have lighting, pictures and sound more interesting than the local films.
For example films made in china, it is reflects the situation that really happened.
PIDA: Other factors which caused industry film malaysia weak caused by own sense of community.This is because our community not support our local film. They rather watch films from western country just likes Bedtime Story, James Bond and other films. This is because they think that film from west more high quality and more action from our local film..
So ADRINA what do you think about weakness our local film??
ADLINA : well..for me thats was good for us to watch many film from outside especially film from Western.This is because we can learn how they produce and directed that film.But..lately our people mostly like to compare our film and western film.Thats why our product decreased and cant sell to other country.We not support our own film and this is a one main reasons why our film cant go through with other film from outside.
AZRENA: Have you ever heard about the high and low context culture? Sometimes, most people watch foreign films which show their high-context cultures. and watch movies on their views in the country is something that is not popular and glamor.This will result in malaysia movie received poor response from local residents.
ADLINA: yes.. i ever heard about low and high culture. Sometimes, a person watch movie just to fulfill their lifestyle. we take example if you are a rich person, will u willing to watch film which many people will see that??not right??..so,we can see this phenomenon and this will call a high culture. They dont want everybody says bad about them,so they will watch film from uotside only.

ADLINA : thanks PIDA because agree with my point..in other ways, from my observation our industry was decrease because our film can't look real or in simple word is it can't be audience to feel like enter in that film or story.
..i take example in 'CICAK MAN' film.yes,that was quit good when our people can make such 3D film.but,when we see the story is same with outside film.in another word,it look that we copy their idea and make our own story...
